Bangla School

Orlando Bangla School

Orlando Bangla School was founded in 2008 by two enthusiastic Bengali moms: Atreyee Biswas & Sukanya Nag. They felt that it was important for the kids to learn and appreciate our culture through the language and its various art forms. For the first couple of years, the school was coordinated in association with Orlando Chinmaya Mission and classes were held every Sunday at the Chinmaya Mission in the Orlando Hindu Temple premises. Based on availability and convenience, the school was then moved and is currently held at Sukanya’s residence in Orlando – every Friday evening.
The children learn the Bangla language in spoken & written form, starting from the basics (O, AA, Ko, Kho …) and progress to more complex words & sentences. They participate in various cultural activities including singing, dancing, poetry oration, essays, dramas (Natok) and perform regularly on stage in the various Bengali Society of Florida functions (Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja etc.). Their first Bangla Natok performance was “Obak Jolpan” in 2010, followed by “Bheem Bodh” in 2011 and then “Ho-Jo-Bo-Ro-Lo” in 2012. All three dramas were well appreciated by the audience and the kids had a lot of fun as well.
The teachers of the school have included Aparajita Deb, Mitra Chanda, Atreyee Biswas, Rituparna Basu, Swadesh Mukul Santra & Sukanya Nag. The school would not have been possible without the support and enthusiasm of the parents.
